According to reports, former FBI Director James Comey will likely be indicted in the coming days in a federal court in the Eastern District of Virginia. The possible charges stem from claims that Comey lied to Congress under oath when he testified on September 30, 2020, regarding whether he approved of the disclosure of information about investigations, such as the FBI’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. There is more urgency surrounding the case because the statute of limitations for filing such perjury charges is set to expire on September 30, 2025.
If the charges are approved by the federal grand jury that is reportedly involved in the indictment process, it will be one of the most high-profile prosecutions related to political disputes involving former President Donald Trump.
